This book appears to be written largely to a geographically centered audience on the East coast. Nonetheless, it is well worth the time and cost to read. The book contains pearls of wisdom that are largely forgotten by large turn overs of experienced officers reaching retirement. Some topics are clearly Field Training oriented, others remain valid throughout your career. The author indicates that there is another volume in the works and I plan on purchasing that as soon as it is available. Too many new officers are now being commisioned with the assumption that they either possess this information, or that it will be provided to them. Neither is the case. This book is written by a cop, for cops. It should be required reading for rookies and academy cadets. I strongly recommend it.
Great reference and great authors. I have been lucky enough to take a couple courses instructed by Matthew Petrocceli. He is very knowledgeable and I have learned a great deal from him!
This book is highly informative and entertaining. I learned a lot and had some hearty laughs while doing so.
One of many good points
"When making an arrest on the street in front of a large crowd, give the suspect a graceful out. Don't make it personal. Explain it is just your job and you appreciate his cooperation. If you punk him out in front of a crowd he will fight you". - very true.
I believe I owe it to the authors and the law enforcement community to state my opinions regarding this extraordinary book. "No One Trips Over a Mountain" is loaded with a wealth of information and insight that could only be created by individuals with super extensive experience in law enforcement. This is truly a must read for anyone looking to develop tactical, psychological, and safety skills in police work. I enthusiastically recommend this book to every patrol officer in America, regardless of where they work or how long they have been engaged in policing.
This book should be required reading for all rookie cops! Great knowledge and many key points useful for all officers!
